MARL’s portfolio spans every defence domain including urgent operational requirement (UOR). Our team’s extensive knowledge in this area empowers us to develop, build and test robust lighting systems for defence applications, as well as supporting with sustainment supply. We build bespoke products to MILSPEC, DefStan and STANAG standards.
Defence lighting solutions
Ship lighting
We design and manufacture complete interior and exterior warship lighting systems. We currently offer 14 core product families which include luminaries, floodlights, task & amenity lighting. We can customise our standardised products as necessary or develop entirely new products to requirement. Reliable and robust, our LED systems provide significant power and operating cost savings, while delivering an outstanding performance in challenging environments.
Submarine lighting
In submarines, where space is limited, one area may serve several purposes. Whether used for strategic planning, recreation or even surgical procedures, our responsive LED systems can quickly transform a space with appropriate lighting. Our submarine suites include full colour mood lighting, with flexible user controls to optimise use of space. Operating at up to 97 CRI, our LEDs can also be used to mimic sunlit conditions.
Vehicle lighting
We manufacture specialised lighting for land vehicle systems. Able to withstand strong vibrations, our LEDs and complementary accessories are designed for volatile environments. From our Ulverston facility, we design & manufacture white, colour, infrared and NVG-compatible lighting systems for use in both bright and dark conditions.
Ruggedised electronics
In addition to LED lighting products, we design and manufacture lighting control systems. Created for agility, our electronic systems are robust and durable. We work primarily on the development of blast-resistant black box equipment, made to meet the most demanding UORs.
Additional support
Defence lighting requirements can change quickly. Even if you don’t see an example relevant to your objectives listed here it’s likely that we can help. Simply speak to our team about your requirement and we’ll let you know whether we’re the right people to support you. If we’re not, we’re often happy to guide you in the right direction.
BAE Systems
MARL worked with defence contractor BAE Systems to develop a robust lighting and control system for use in the Royal Navy’s Type 26 ships.
